Method 1: Installation on an Existing Concrete Slab (Recommended)
Our spruce wood gazebos are designed to be installed on an existing concrete slab using the included expansion bolts. This method provides a strong and reliable connection between the gazebo and the foundation while allowing for straightforward installation.
Procedure
- Position all gazebo posts according to the assembly instructions.
- Confirm the structure is square and properly aligned.
- Mark anchor locations through the pre-drilled holes in each post base plate.
- Drill the concrete using a hammer drill and the appropriate masonry bit.
- Remove all concrete dust from the holes before inserting anchors.
- Install the supplied expansion bolts through the base plates and into the concrete.
- Tighten all anchors securely according to the hardware specifications.
- Verify that all posts remain plumb before performing final tightening.
Concrete Requirements
For best results, install the gazebo on a level, structurally sound concrete slab. The slab should be free from major cracks, settling, or surface damage that could affect anchor performance.
Method 2: Installation on a Wood Deck
Spruce wood gazebos may also be installed on a properly constructed wood deck using suitable structural wood screws or lag fasteners (not included).
Procedure
- Position the gazebo according to the assembly instructions.
- Align and mark all post base locations.
- Secure each base plate using appropriately sized structural wood fasteners.
- Whenever possible, fasteners should penetrate into deck joists, blocking, or other structural framing members beneath the decking.
- Verify that all posts are plumb and square before final tightening.
Important Note
Deck boards alone may not provide sufficient resistance to wind uplift or lateral forces. For maximum stability, fasteners should be anchored into the deck's structural framing system whenever possible.
Which Installation Method Is Stronger?
Concrete installations generally provide the highest level of anchoring performance because expansion bolts are secured directly into a rigid foundation. However, both concrete and wood-deck installations can perform well when installed correctly on a structurally sound surface.
The most important factor is not the anchoring method itself, but the quality of the installation and the condition of the supporting structure.

Before fully tightening any anchor or fastener, ensure every post is perfectly plumb.
Even minor misalignment can introduce uneven loads into the gazebo frame and roof structure over time. Using a 4-foot level, check each post in two directions and make any necessary adjustments before final tightening.
Proper post alignment helps reduce stress on connections, improves overall stability, and contributes to long-term structural performance.
